How to choose the right computer desk?
I am happy to welcome my regular readers, all subscribers, as well as all those who happened to come to my channel for the first time and read this article! As the youngsters say, I won't be catching the coronavirus theme with my hips, but will continue to tell you about various interesting things from the world of furniture and interior design.
Today we are going to talk about computer tables. We will find out what they are, what they are made of and name key criteria that will allow you to choose a practical, comfortable and functional table.
Basic criteria for choosing a computer table
A computer table has long ceased to be "another piece of furniture" that is bought just because you need to place a laptop or monitor with a system unit. Today, a properly selected computer table is a multifunctional piece of furniture, a comfortable workplace and an integral part of the interior.
To make the selection process as easy as possible and to get new furniture that meets all expectations, consider the following factors when choosing a particular model:
Dimensions.
Form factor.
Functionality.
Material and style of finish.
Let's take a closer look at each of the criteria.
When size counts.
Before deciding on a particular table model, you must first decide on its size. If the old table is changing to the new one, it is enough to focus on the size of the old furniture. If you are planning a rearrangement or the table is being bought for the first time - you should measure the place where it will be placed.
Interesting fact! The height of all standard computer desks is 750 mm. It is a standard.
This height is considered optimal for users with a height between 162 and 175 cm. If your height exceeds these limits, there are two options for maximum comfort when working at the table: order furniture according to individual drawings or adjust the height of the computer chair.
The rest of the table can be almost any size, so you can choose the best option for any room.
Computer desktop selection rules
Now let's talk about the quality of the table itself and its usability. The height of the computer desk should be between 70 and 76 cm. An excellent option - a 75 cm high computer desk.
The depth of the comfortable tabletop should be at least 80 cm, otherwise it will be very difficult to install a large modern monitor. When working with a computer, the monitor should be below eye level. The table should also not be too narrow, otherwise your feet will rest on the wall or partition and working behind the wall will be extremely uncomfortable.
The length of the table is a matter of taste, but the longer it is, the more comfortable it is to work behind it and the more useful things you can place on it.
The edge of the table should not be sharp. Ideally, it should be treated with a plastic edge. This rule is especially relevant when you buy a table for your child. Do not take risks, but choose a safe table. Besides the risk of scratches, a well-treated edge of the tabletop guarantees a longer life, as the edge is the most wear-intensive part of the table.
The keyboard tray should be of good quality and move on reliable roller guides. It is not so much about work, but about freeing up space in time and turning it into an ordinary desk.
The material can also be different. But if you go for an inexpensive option - laminated chipboard is the ideal choice, but the laminated material will deteriorate quickly.
Convenience. If you choose a computer desk, sit down yourself or sit down for your child. It is very important that when you work at the table, your hands are not weighed down and do not hang, otherwise they will get very tired. In the case of a pull-out shelf, the elbow and hand should be parallel to the surface of the table. Please also note that there are a variety of shelves and stands. Is there enough space for a printer or scanner? Equally important is the stand for the system unit, which must be well ventilated. It is good to have a retractable stand that allows you to move the system unit easily and without effort.
How to choose a computer table for the gamer
The more eSports develop, the stricter the requirements for gamers' tables become. There are special rules and norms of the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation concerning both computer equipment for gamers and other equipment for games - primarily computer tables. A table for a gamer simply has to be multifunctional and ergonomic.
Some furniture factories have allocated gaming computer tables in special rulers, products of which are readily purchased by gamers and those who work many hours a day professionally for the PC.
When choosing a computer table for eSports, look for the following points.
Reliability
A computer table for the gamer is a room where all your equipment (monitor, mouse, etc.) will be located and where you will experience victories and defeats. So the first thing you need to worry about is the durability of the desk - it will have to carry a heavy load.
Ordinary desks, writing and computer tables, usually made of chipboard and wood, but these popular materials are not suitable for gaming tables as they are not designed for active play. So it is better to choose metal furniture that can withstand up to 180 kg - for all play equipment and, if necessary, its owner.
The surfaces of such tables are too smoothly polished, matt or hidden under a plastic coating. The latter option is more pleasant to the touch, and in terms of strength and safety they are all about the same. All components and connecting elements are also metallic. The removable stand under the monitor allows you to play not only from a stationary PC, but also from a laptop without connecting an additional monitor.
The computer's power supply system is usually hidden in a desk. The most advanced models of computer desks for gamers are equipped with hubs and pedestals. If you choose this option as your gaming desk, find out what the maximum power of the sockets is and whether the supplied current is stable so as not to jeopardise the power supply of your gaming PC or laptop.
End stops on the edges of the tabletop (in the form of mini walls or edges) provide additional protection for your equipment. Choose a computer gaming table based on your habits (whether you wave or place objects on the table while playing) and living conditions (it is possible that pets also love your table and climb on it all the time).
Comfort
The comfort of using this or that piece of equipment is purely an individual matter. However, there are some general recommendations that are relevant to all those who have been faced with the need to choose the right computer desk for the game.
First, the adjustable height of the legs. It minimises unevenness of the floor, makes it even more reliable and adapts it to your growth.
Secondly, the location of the wires and communication. A good player's table allows you to hide all the cables so they don't get pushed up during play, but if necessary, it can be easily connected or removed without climbing under the table or moving it away from the wall.
The best option is a computer table that already includes splitters, sockets and hubs. Connecting the devices will be easy and convenient without having to worry about insufficient wire length.
Thirdly, comfort during play. It largely depends on the size and shape of the desk. Unless it is a standard desk and set up for the player, comfort is more important than compactness: after all, the table must have (not too close to the player so as not to hinder his movements) one or more keyboards, mouse, gamepad, speakers and headset. So it is better to choose a large table.
In addition to the size of the work surfaces, different gaming tables have differently organised space in front of the seated person. The highest quality models allow you to adjust the tilt of this area, or it is initially tilted at a comfortable angle. The essence of this device is to take unnecessary stress off the player's wrists and prevent injury.
