How does car transport work? | Car Transportation

If you want to ship your car to any city in the United States or to Puerto Rico, today we tell you what many people don't know about how car transport works.

How to choose the right car shipping company for your car?
1. The most important factor is the company's licenses or permits to make your shipment.

We tell you more details and recommendations on this point in our article "5 tips to choose a good transport company".

2. For the collection and delivery of the car:

Depending on the service you contract with the company, you will have to deliver the vehicle to your home or directly to a port.

It is very important that the vehicle is operable (i.e. it works, has a reserve, accelerates and brakes) in order to facilitate the loading and unloading of the car.

Otherwise, if the vehicle is inoperable, you will have to inform the company and pay an additional cost for the logistical effort it represents.

3. If the service you hire is a land transport:

With a nanny-type truck, your vehicle will be taken from point of origin A to point of destination B.

Several safety mechanisms are used in transport, such as activating the car's emergency brake.

To prevent your car from getting scratched during transport, we recommend that you wash the car thoroughly and apply a fresh coat of wax.

This will help protect your car's paintwork and serve as a good barrier against insects and dirt.

4. If the service you hire is a maritime transport:

Once your vehicle is at the seaport of departure, there are two options for shipping: the flatbed method and the container method.

In the event that the transport is to be carried out in containers, you can choose between shared and exclusive containers, the latter being the most expensive.

However, the most common method of shipment is the flatbed method, in which the vehicles are loaded onto the ship via the ship's ramp.

Once the car is loaded onto the vessel, it is securely lashed down in a designated place so that it is protected from external elements.

5. About insurance for car transport:

The idea of insurance will always be to cover possible damage to the car during transport.

For example, in the case of land transport with us, the insurance is included in the transport.

If, on the other hand, your car is to be shipped by sea, you must quote for maritime insurance at an additional cost.

For the insurance to be valid in both cases, we recommend that you take high-resolution photos of the car before shipping.

That way, if the vehicle is damaged during transport, you will be able to attach this evidence along with the insurance claim.

It is very important to know that although the insurance is contracted, it has certain limits in its coverage. So if the damage to the car is not included in the coverage, your claim will probably have no effect.
