By the fire: the top 6 trends in the field of fireplaces
More fire in the kitchen
Judith: "At first glance, everyone wants a fireplace for its cosiness. But first we always ask the question: how do you intend to use the fireplace?" According to her, the functions of the rooms in the house are becoming increasingly confused. "We spend more and more time in the kitchen. Preparing elaborate meals, spending time at the table or having an aperitif at the kitchen island bar. So more and more new homes have a large living kitchen with a smaller living room. But if that's the case, why do so many people still install the fireplace in their living room?" Lincy adds, "A fireplace in the extension of the kitchen can be so beautiful."
Warmth in the bedroom
So the rooms in the house are changing function. "While a fireplace in the bedroom was unimaginable a few years ago, it is increasingly present in the bedroom nowadays," says Lincy. Judith: "This essential element brings warmth, comfort and atmosphere to your bedroom, making it a room for relaxation and rest."
Big, bigger, biggest
"What we're also seeing," says Lincy, "is that more and more people want a big, wide or long fireplace. We usually see this type of fireplace in saunas, hotels and restaurants. Places that are conducive to relaxation. And that relaxed atmosphere, people want to create in their own homes."
Want a little more?
According to Judith, the fireplace fits in perfectly with this changing trend in interiors. "The industrial period is over. Everything has to be a bit more 'finished', chic and rich. We're seeing a lot of walnut and pretty fabrics in the interior. And what better way to do that than with a warm fireplace?" The white plaster mantle is also getting a makeover. "As long as the decorative part doesn't get hot, anything is possible. Steel, leather, wallpaper, cork, natural stone and even wood are among the possibilities. The specialist can advise you on this.
Goodbye radiator, hello fireplace
Radiators are tending to disappear from new homes. "Underfloor heating alone is not enough to create a pleasant temperature in the house," explains Lincy, "because underfloor heating is a source of heat that is not very warm by nature. And how do you get warm quickly? There's nothing like a fireplace as an extra heater."
Cosy around the fire
The television is also slowly disappearing. "We recently delivered the first project without a television in the living room," says Judith. "Everyone still has their own screen within easy reach. The family prefers to gather around the fireplace."
3 tips for a fireplace in the house
Would you like a fireplace in your home? Consider the following tips:
Do not install the fireplace too high so that your eyes are not at the level of the underside of the glass. This is very important if you are using the fireplace as a room divider.
When planning the position of the fireplace in the room, make sure that your back is not to the fireplace too often. Otherwise you will not achieve the desired visual effect and it will soon become too hot for many people.
Do not follow the latest trends, but rather your instinct. After all, you need to be satisfied with your new fireplace for a long time.
